California USPS Employee Faces Federal Charges for Obstructing Delivery of Campaign Mail
Investigators recovered most of the mail, and prosecutors say many pieces were marked undeliverable despite valid addresses.
- On Monday, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of California announced federal charges against Sacramento postal carrier Antoine Rashad Polite for delaying and obstructing the delivery of U.S. mail.
- Investigators allege that between Sept. 23 and Oct. 27, "Polite improperly withheld" hundreds of pieces of political campaign mail intended for residents on his assigned route in Sacramento County.
- Postal management initially discovered approximately 493 pieces of mail in an area designated for undeliverable bulk items; investigators later found an additional 527 pieces inside Polite's assigned postal vehicle.
- Polite faces a maximum penalty of 6 months in prison for obstruction and 1 year for delay or destruction, though postal officials have recovered and delivered the vast majority of the mail.
- Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin Khasigian is prosecuting the case; the charges remain allegations and Polite is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
