S&P/TSX Composite Down Nearly 400 Points, U.S. Stock Markets Also Lower
Industrial, technology and base metal losses drove the decline as the Dow, S&P 500 and Nasdaq also fell, with oil and gold prices moving higher and lower.
On Monday, the TSX composite index fell 373.20 points to close at 36,180.72, reflecting broad market weakness across Canada.
Losses in the industrial, technology, and base metal sectors weighed heavily on the TSX during Monday's trading session.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 347.87 points to 53,212.12, while the Nasdaq composite dropped 89.63 points to 26,312.79.
Commodity markets showed mixed results; the October crude oil contract gained US$1.76 to US$85.16 per barrel, while the December gold contract fell US$45.30 to US$4,484.60 per ounce.
The CADUSD traded for 71.91 cents US on Monday, down from 72.12 cents US on the previous trading day.
The Toronto Stock Exchange was down nearly 400 points on Tuesday late in the morning, with losses from industry, technology and base metals, while rising oil prices helped to support the energy sector.
