Ryan Kreidler taking advantage of increased opportunity with Twins
Kreidler has played shortstop, center field and third base while Byron Buxton deals with a hip issue and Kaelen Culpepper stays at Triple-A.
Ryan Kreidler has seized an expanded role with the Minnesota Twins, earning consistent playing time at shortstop and other positions through defensive versatility and improved offensive production.
After being DFA'd twice by Detroit, Kreidler joined the Twins in October and is slashing.279/.353/.490 with five home runs and 23 RBIs in 44 games this season.
"He's got some pop," manager Derek Shelton said, noting Kreidler has also played center field, left field, and third base this season.
Playing time increased when the Twins demoted Royce Lewis and shifted Brooks Lee, prompting Kreidler to state, "I think helping the team win however I can is still the most important thing."
While Kaelen Culpepper, one of the organization's top prospects, recently returned to Triple-A from the injured list, Kreidler remains focused on his major league contributions.
