Moscow Airports Shut Down Again Amid Drone Attacks
Rosaviatsia said the closures were needed for flight safety as Russian authorities reported intercepted drones and evacuations at a Moscow office complex.
- On Friday, the Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviatsia, suspended operations at all four major Moscow airports—Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky—citing a massive drone attack.
- Moscow officials activated the "Kover" plan, a protective protocol triggered when drones approach, as repeated aerial threats have disrupted civilian aviation around the capital for months.
- Amid the alert, visitors evacuated the IQ-Quarter complex in Moscow City, which houses the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications, and Mass Media, the Ministry of Economic Development, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
- At least 250 flights were canceled as the disruptions extended a pattern of drone-driven shutdowns, following a similar event on Thursday when authorities suspended all four airports.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously warned that Russian airspace would become "completely unsafe," and Ukraine remains committed to using drones to trigger the "Kover" plan and disrupt operations.
