The Russian Geophysical Service has reported that the earthquake occurred at 1437 local time and has identified its epicenter some 123 kilometres from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski in the north of the Pacific Ocean.
A powerful 7.4 earthquake in the Kamchatka region of Russia has triggered a tsunami alert.
