The governor of the Kamchatka region, Vladimir Solodov, called on the population to keep calm and be alert to information from official sources.

The Russian Geophysical Service has reported that the earthquake occurred at 1437 local time and has identified its epicenter some 123 kilometres from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatski in the north of the Pacific Ocean.

A powerful 7.4 earthquake in the Kamchatka region of Russia has triggered a tsunami alert.

After a severe earthquake off the east coast of the Russian peninsula Kamchatka there is no more tsunami danger. An initial warning had been lifted, the Pacific tsunami warning center of the USA announced on Saturday.
