Rugby star Sinfield and authors Blackman and Donaldson lead honours list
Nearly 1,200 people were honoured for work in sport, arts, charity and public service, with Kevin Sinfield, Julia Donaldson and Malorie Blackman among the leading names.
On Friday, the King's Birthday Honours list recognized nearly 1,200 individuals across the United Kingdom for public, charitable, and cultural service, with high-profile honorees including actress Dame Helen Mirren, author Julia Donaldson, and rugby legend Kevin Sinfield.
Inspired by his late teammate Rob Burrow, former rugby league captain Kevin Sinfield was knighted for his extraordinary advocacy for motor neurone disease, having raised over £11 million since 2020.
Actress Dame Helen Mirren was appointed a Companion of Honour, an exclusive status limited to 65 living members, while author Julia Donaldson received a damehood for services to literature and advocated for more libraries.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer praised recipients for "quietly changing lives" through resilience and commitment, while the Cabinet Office manages the nomination process to ensure broad representation across sectors.
Honours are awarded twice annually, in June and at New Year's, maintaining a cycle that allows public nominations and ensures recognition remains responsive to community contributions, with the next list expected in the new year.
