- Inside the compound, 15 U.N. international staff were present, working for multiple agencies including the World Food Program, UNICEF and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
- The U.N. said it is taking all necessary measures and is in contact with relevant authorities to secure personnel and property, relocating its top humanitarian coordinator from Sanaa to Aden.
- The raid occurs against a backdrop in which Yemen plunged into civil war in 2014 when the Houthis seized Sanaa, displacing the internationally recognised government of Yemen, and a Saudi-led coalition intervened the following year.
