Royals Crowned Best in B.C., a Historic First for Vernon School
Lente Delport stopped Aberdeen Hall’s sixth penalty as the Royals completed a tournament run with four clean sheets in five games, coach Jordan Sevenhuysen said.
- Vernon Christian Royals keeper Lente Delport saved the sixth penalty kick against the Aberdeen Hall Gryphons, securing the school's first-ever B.C. Senior Girls provincial championship in any sport.
- Head coach Jordan Sevenhuysen built the championship through a focused culture and rigorous preparation, including early-season matches against elite Metro Vancouver competition that pushed the team to excellence.
- Delport earned the Golden Glove as tournament goalkeeper after recording four clean sheets across five matches, while the defensive unit held Aberdeen Hall scoreless through 70 minutes of regulation and 30 minutes of extra time.
- Tournament Most Valuable Player Rory Engelage, Andrea Beaumont, and Cella Fourie converted penalty kicks, as did Sadie van Veen, Brynn Zuidhof, and Madeline Dyck, setting the stage for Delport's decisive save.
- Sevenhuysen noted the trophy reflects a legacy built by players over the past decade; since 2015, more than 200 student athletes have played soccer for Vernon Christian.
