Rookie QB Jalon Daniels Eager to Build on First NFL Start with Struggling Buccaneers
- Undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels will make his first NFL start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, replacing Baker Mayfield who dislocated his thumb last week.
- Head coach Todd Bowles expects Mayfield to miss at least three weeks of play, with the 0-3 Buccaneers turning to Daniels after Mayfield was sacked a league-high 13 times in the first three weeks.
- During his junior season at Kansas, Daniels passed for 2,014 yards and rushed for 425 yards, drawing on 45 collegiate starts before signing with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
- The rookie faces a difficult schedule, starting Sunday against Green Bay before a quick turnaround for a Thursday Night Football matchup against the Dallas Cowboys as Tampa Bay seeks NFC South competitiveness.
- Emphasizing his leadership philosophy, Daniels said, "You can't be the thermometer, you have to be the thermostat," while his mobility serves as a key asset behind a struggling offensive line.
