NFL-Goodell Says He Welcomes Inquiry Into Hurts’ Medical Treatment
Goodell said the league welcomes a union review as Hurts is ruled out for the rest of the season after blood clots worsened.
On Wednesday, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced the league welcomes an NFLPA investigation into the Philadelphia Eagles' handling of quarterback Jalen Hurts during the fall league meeting in Manhattan.
The NFL Players Association called for a 'full investigation' on Tuesday, citing the circumstances surrounding Hurts playing with a blood clot in his leg before the Jacksonville Jaguars game.
Reports revealed Hurts was told not to sleep after diagnosis, remaining awake for 36 hours before playing. His condition later worsened to deep-vein thrombosis and multiple clots in his lungs, ending his 2026 season.
NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills disputed claims that team doctors prioritized winning over player health. Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the Accountability and Care Committee will select neutral physicians to report findings within 60 days.
With Hurts sidelined, the Eagles are moving forward with Tanner McKee as the new starting quarterback. The team prepares for a divisional matchup against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football.
