Rockies Place Starting Pitcher Kyle Freeland on Injured List
Kyle Freeland went on the injured list after a bullpen session went poorly, and Blake Adams was called up to make his major league debut.
The Colorado Rockies placed Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list Monday with a pinched nerve in his neck, selecting the contract of Blake Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque to fill the roster spot.
Freeland departed his start against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday after 3 2/3 innings when pain radiated from his neck down to his fingers, forcing his removal from the mound in Denver.
The left-hander has struggled this season, posting a 4-10 record with a 6.37 ERA across 23 starts, though he currently leads The Rockies in both strikeouts and innings pitched .
To replace the veteran, Colorado selected the contract of Blake Adams, who is set to make his major league debut after recording a 3-5 record and 6.52 ERA in 25 appearances between Double-A and Triple-A.
Manager Warren Schaeffer initially planned to avoid the injured list after Freeland felt better Thursday, but the pitcher struggled during a bullpen session, necessitating the roster move.
