Robots Protest Rampant AI in Poland

Around 30 robots marched to press for rules on AI and robotisation, as organisers warned the technology could replace workers.

  • On Monday, around 30 robots marched through Warsaw to demand AI regulation in front of the Polish digital affairs ministry, where Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski met with organizers to discuss concerns.
  • Democratism, an initiative aiming to launch debate 'on how AI and robotisation affect the labour market,' organized the protest; organizer Grzegorz Kulis told AFP the urgency of addressing potential human replacement by machines.
  • Loudspeakers played chants of 'Defend workplaces,' 'Time for rules,' and 'Don't wait, regulate' as bipedal and dog-like robots demonstrated their capabilities; Kulis noted, 'These robots can already move around freely; they're already 'protesting'.'
  • Kulis, a robotics company CIO and former Labor Market Council member at the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, called for 'rules and regulations that would serve as a shield protecting workers.'
  • Although Poland's president Karol Nawrocki signed a bill in July implementing the Act, Kulis warned that immediate action remains necessary to address risks from evolving humanoid models and cognitive automation replacing workers.
