Robert Lee Munnell, 94 – Ellwood City, PA news

Robert “Bob” Lee Munnell, 94, of Ellwood City passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospice House following a brief illness. Born February 2, 1932, in Washington, PA, Bob was the son of the late Elbert Clayton and Virginia Grandstaff Munnell. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Ida Galli, on October 2, 1954, and together they shared 64 years of marriage until her passing on May 13, 2019. A graduate of East Washington High School, Bob earned his bachelor’s degree from Geneva College, where he played football and ran track. He then answered the call and proudly served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He later earned his master’s degree from Westminster College. Bob was a beloved math teacher at Lincoln High School for 33 years, where he also coached football and track & field. A devoted and active member of Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church, Bob served as treasurer, an Elder, and a tenor in the choir. He was also a longtime member of the Saxon and Hungarian Clubs in Ellwood City. An avid Steelers fan, Bob turned the disappointment of a local TV blackout of a Steelers game into an opportunity to visit family in Ohio, where he got to watch the game and have the excitement of seeing Franco Harris make “The Immaculate Reception”! He also enjoyed golf, singing, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy! Most of all, Bob cherished time spent with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren. Bob is survived by his four children: Paul (Sue) Munnell, Barb (Jim) Burry, Mary (Greg) Ritter, and Mark (Ronalynn) Munnell. Also survived by 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Stephanie, Jimmy, David, Robert, Alison, Lauren, Mark Jr., Addison, and Maria; and six great-grandchildren: Shepard, Bryce, Nolan, Caroline, Maya, and Stella. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, John F. “Jack” Munnell. The family extends their deepest appreciation to: Pastor Carolyn and the SRPC family for getting Dad to and from Sunday services, showing up with homemade food and sending cards; the Ewing Park neighbors for being our eyes, ears and hearts, for checking on him and being there for whatever he needed, especially the friendship and support; and the hospice nurses at Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford for treating our father with care, respect and dignity during the last hours of his life here on earth. Friends and family will be received on Friday August 7, 2026, from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Marshall Funeral Home, 200 Fountain Ave., Ellwood City and on Saturday August 8, at the Slippery Rock Presbyterian Church from 10 until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. Carolyn Moss will officiate. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Autism Speaks or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
