Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER–SD) has sharply criticized President Petr Pellegrini after he vetoed the law abolishing the Office for the Protection of Victims of Crime and Whistleblowers. According to Fico, the head of state prioritized popularity in the media and the interests of his own party Hlas–SD over the actual exercise of power.
The Slovak parliament has overruled President Peter Pellegrini's veto by the votes of government deputies and re-approved the law abolishing the current whistleblower protection office. According to the approved norm, this office will be replaced from January by a new institution, the leadership of which will be appointed by the governing coalition.
He claims that Smer-SD is considering supporting Pellegrini in the next presidential election.
