Major Edinburgh Emergency Response at Scene of 'Ongoing Incident' Near Airport
Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle crash that left the A8 closed in both directions and forced airport traffic onto diversion routes.
On Monday, September 7, a "serious crash" involving multiple vehicles closed the A8 in both directions between Newbridge Roundabout and Gogar near Edinburgh Airport at approximately 9:25 am.
Emergency crews, including fire and paramedic teams, responded immediately to the scene where eyewitnesses reported an air ambulance in the area. Images showed one vehicle on its bonnet and another with extensive damage.
Three people were transported to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary following the collision. The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched three ambulances, two special operations response teams, and a critical care paramedic to the scene.
Traffic Scotland is diverting vehicles via the M8 and Bypass to mitigate significant delays, while Edinburgh Airport officials urged passengers to allow additional time and contact airlines directly for travel updates.
Westbound traffic can now access Edinburgh Airport as normal, but eastbound lanes remain closed between Newbridge and Gogar as authorities continue clearing the site and managing ongoing disruptions.
