Rivian Automotive: Q3 Earnings Snapshot
The automaker said software revenue and a Volkswagen licensing deal helped offset losses as R2 production ramped and deliveries hit a record quarter.
On Thursday, Rivian Automotive reported Q3 2026 revenue of $2.155 billion, a 38% year-over-year increase, as the R2 SUV became the company's "best-selling Rivian vehicle by volume."
Rivian launched a second production shift in Normal, Illinois, to accelerate R2 manufacturing, prioritizing the lower-cost SUV as its "higher-volume, mass-market offering" to drive long-term profitability.
Software and services revenue reached $605 million with $256 million in gross profit, while the company reported a $913 million net loss; the Volkswagen Group partnership contributed significantly to segment earnings.
Reflecting confidence in sales momentum, Rivian raised its 2026 delivery guidance to between 67,000 and 70,000 units and improved its pre-tax adjusted earnings outlook by $100 million at the midpoint.
Cheaper R2 trims starting at $53,990 are slated for release later this year, with further versions coming in 2027; construction on the Georgia plant continues to build 300,000 units of annual capacity.
