Rivian's Autonomy+ offers hands-free driving on 3.5 million U.S. miles with a custom AI processor, lidar, and voice assistant, launching next year at $2,500 or $49.99 monthly.
- Rivian unveiled Autonomy+ and its first in-house chip at Palo Alto, with plans to launch early 2026 for $2,500 or $49.99 per month, and Scaringe said an update will expand hands-free driving to more than 3.5 million miles.
- To cut costs and control key technology, Rivian developed in-house AI processors to reduce supplier reliance, support a higher-margin software business, and attract almost $6 billion from Volkswagen AG.
- Rivian said its RAP1 chips power ACM3, processing 5 billion pixels per second and boosting performance with 11 cameras, five radar sensors, one forward LiDAR, and RivLink interconnect.
- After the presentation, investors reacted as Rivian stock fell 4.5%, while Rivian will deliver an OTA update to R1 owners soon, but initial vehicles lack the new chip and lidar.
- With R2 entering production in the first half of 2026, the company plans to ship third-generation hardware starting late 2026 and roll out software updates through 2027 to advance Level 4 autonomy and point-to-point driving.
