River Mobility Raises $120 Million, Plots Manufacturing Expansion
On Wednesday, electric vehicle startup River Mobility announced it raised $120 million to expand its product portfolio and build a new manufacturing facility to capitalize on growing EV demand.
Rising fuel prices from the Middle East war and increasing consumer demand for cleaner transport have bolstered India's electric vehicle market this year, driving rapid sector growth.
The new plant will increase monthly production capacity to 80,000 scooters, compared with 10,000 at the existing Karnataka facility, CEO Aravind Mani told Reuters.
Elev8 Venture Partners and Claypond Capital led the round, contributing over 85% of equity and debt, while existing investors including Yamaha Motor, Al-Futtaim Group, and Mitsui also participated.
River Mobility plans to launch a second premium utility scooter by mid-2027 and develop a third model while competing with heavyweights like Ather, TVS Motor, and Bajaj Auto.
