Rio Tinto said it started commissioning its $1.5B low-carbon AP60 aluminum smelter expansion in Quebec which will increase the plant’s production capacity by ~160K metric tons/year.
Rio Tinto has begun the operation of the AP60 tanks at the Arvida Complex. This expansion, which replaces the old tank rooms, will allow the multinational to increase its production capacity to 220,000 tonnes of primary aluminum per year.
