Speeding motorcyclist jailed for killing 86-year-old man on pedestrian crossing
Daniel Redpath was sentenced to 21 months in prison and a three-year driving ban after causing a fatal collision while speeding and riding a poorly equipped motorcycle.
- On the afternoon of 18 April 2023, Daniel Redpath, a 25-year-old motorcyclist, fatally struck 86-year-old Kunwar Singh on a pedestrian crossing in Bromley, Kent.
- Redpath was speeding between 48mph and 64mph on a 40mph limit road while riding an Aprilia RX 125 motorbike without front indicators, mirrors, or a suitable rear tire, and he held only a provisional licence without displaying L plates.
- Witnesses and the court heard that Mr Singh was partway across the crossing when Redpath hit him, and despite Redpath’s claim he saw Singh and expected him to wait, the judge noted Redpath showed clear disregard for road rules.
- On Wednesday, Redpath was handed a 21-month prison term and ordered to refrain from driving for three years after his release, with Judge Richard Marks KC commending the heartfelt victim impact statements delivered by Mr Singh’s son and daughter.
- The collision resulted in Mr Singh's immediate death, with his widow reportedly dying from heartbreak shortly after, and the case highlights serious consequences of reckless driving on public roads.
