Cartier-Owner Richemont in Talks to Join Bid for Diamond Giant De Beers, Source Says
Negotiations are advanced, but Botswana’s approval and a final decision remain uncertain, Bloomberg reported.
- On Thursday, Swiss luxury group Richemont entered talks to join the Global Diamond Consortium bidding for diamond miner De Beers, which Anglo American is selling for about $1 billion.
- Anglo American put De Beers up for sale in May 2024 as part of a restructuring after falling prices and synthetic stone competition hit the industry, leading to three impairments totaling $2.3 billion.

- RBC Capital Markets analyst Piral Dadhania noted the move would give Richemont "an important voice in the future of the natural diamond industry," positioning the company to secure its supply chain.
