US Official Insists Deal with Iran ’75 Percent There’
A senior U.S. official said the draft would dismantle parts of Iran’s nuclear program and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
On Friday, a senior Trump administration official estimated the developing agreement with Iran is 75 percent complete, with potential plans to hold a signing ceremony in Geneva as soon as this weekend.
The performance-based deal, brokered primarily by Pakistan under Field Marshal Asim Munir, aims to build upon a fragile ceasefire in place since April 7, though Iranian leaders previously accepted similar draft terms last month.
IRNA reported that Iran's nuclear program would remain intact with talks held within 60 days of signing, while asserting Iran would not transfer management of the Strait of Hormuz to other countries.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X Friday that an agreement "has never been closer," though President Trump lashed out at Iranian officials on social media, warning they "better get their act together, and FAST!"
Despite the progress, sources familiar with the matter indicate no sign that Iran's supreme leader has approved the terms, leaving the deal incomplete and subject to significant diplomatic fragility.
