Digital banking platform Revolut has been hit by a major data breach after a sophisticated scam exposed sensitive customer data. The attackers used a fake government email address to access the data, posing as a legitimate request for information, and are now demanding a ransom. The leaked information includes IDs, selfies, account statements, transaction history and IBAN numbers, posing a serious risk to affected customers.

The perpetrators, who obtained Revolut's clients' personal data through false requests on behalf of the government, began publishing stolen information and demanded 10,000 bitcoins from the company, more than $780 million.
