Frustrated Pensioner Unable to Return Home After Stourbridge Blaze
Around 100 firefighters are damping down the blaze after six homes were damaged and several residents were evacuated, officials said.
On Thursday, a 40-acre wildfire erupted in Stourbridge, spreading to at least six homes as around 100 firefighters battled flames that officials said spread 'like a domino effect.'
Dudley Council is supporting around 300 people evacuated from the Norton area after authorities declared the wildfires a 'major incident' in response to strong winds and extreme heat.
Thick smoke forced closure of the M6 northbound, causing motorists delays of around 120 minutes, while at least two people were treated for heat- and smoke-related injuries.
Notable locations including Stourbridge Town Hall and St Michaels church opened as 'rest centres' for displaced residents, with residents organizing a 'huge community effort' to provide donations.
Dudley cabinet member Cllr Ed Lawrence stated the situation is under control and urged the public to stay away; residents seeking information about evacuated relatives can call 0300 555 2345.
