GOP Rep. Max Miller loses re-election in Ohio following abuse allegations from his ex-wife
The Democrat and union ironworker flipped the district after domestic violence allegations and millions in outside spending reshaped the race, NBC News projects.
On November 3, Democrat Brian Poindexter defeated incumbent Republican Rep. Max Miller in Ohio's 7th Congressional District, flipping a seat President Donald Trump would have won by 11 points in 2024.
Miller's reelection bid faltered after allegations of domestic violence surfaced during his contentious divorce, including claims from ex-wife Emily Moreno and former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, though Miller has vehemently denied all wrongdoing.
Poindexter, an ironworker and Brook Park City Council member, amplified the abuse allegations in campaign ads as national Democrats invested heavily in the competitive race.
Moreno's spokesperson Stefan Mychajliw called Miller's denial video "unhinged and humiliating," while Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno stated Miller is unfit for office due to custody concerns.
Poindexter will serve a two-year term beginning in January 2027, marking the first Democrat to represent the district, which extends south of Cleveland, in decades.
