CPJ welcomes release of three journalists in Belarus
Berlin, September 16, 2026—The Committee to Protect Journalists welcomes the release of journalists Andrei Aliaksandrau, Dzmitry Navazhylau, and Kyril Pazniak, who were among 25 prisoners freed on Wednesday by Belarus following months of U.S. diplomatic efforts. The releases followed a meeting between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and John Coale, U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy...
"We are glad that these people are free. We are ready to take care of them. We are also very grateful to Lithuania, our human rights activists, organizations and, of course, the European Union for the assistance provided," Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya told reporters in Vilnius on Wednesday.
We asked the Belarusian political analyst and consultant, the head of the Vadim Mojeiko Institute for Security Studies, about this on the air.
Reporters Without Borders welcomed the release of Belgian journalists and media workers who were released today among 25 political prisoners, but their removal to Lithuania in the organization was described as brutal.
