Qatar and UAE urge allies to bolster air defenses as Qatar's Patriot missiles may be depleted within days amid ongoing Iranian drone and missile attacks.
- UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Qatari emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani have held telephone calls with European leaders including Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, and Friedrich Merz, urging allies to persuade President Donald Trump to seek an off-ramp against Iran.
- Since Feb 28, strikes on Iran have widened the confrontation across the region, and on March 2, Qatar was attacked by two Iranian drones targeting Mesaieed and Ras Laffan.
- Qatar reported downing two Sukhoi Su-24s and intercepting seven ballistic missiles, with Patriot stocks lasting four days, as both UAE and Qatar rush to boost air defences.
- The UAE and Qatar are building a coalition to prevent prolonged energy-price shocks as Qatar halted liquefied natural gas production, sending European gas prices surging more than 50 per cent.
