Report seeks better King County Sheriff’s Office response to ICE
The oversight office said fears of immigration enforcement are affecting school attendance and police reporting, with 56% of survey respondents saying daily life has changed.
Last week, the Office of Law Enforcement Oversight issued seven community-driven recommendations to the King County Sheriff's Office aimed at improving responses when federal immigration agents operate within the county.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests at community sites have dramatically increased since 2025, prompting confusion about the King County Sheriff's role in responding to federal immigration enforcement, according to OLEO.
OLEO survey data found 56% of respondents reported immigration enforcement fears impacted daily activities, while 70% worry more about racial profiling; 41% are less willing to call police for help.
The recommendations include directing deputies to intervene against excessive force and publishing software audits; King County Sheriff Patti Cole-Tindall said she will review them with the Executive Office and community partners.
Cole-Tindall plans to engage 13 cities, the Muckleshoot Tribe, and other contracting agencies on the recommendations, with OLEO expecting to update implementation status by February 2027.
