Report of rift between Netanyahu and army chief denied
On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz dismissed media reports of a rift with army chief Eyal Zamir, labeling allegations "entirely baseless and false" just 24 hours before Tuesday's election.
Sunday's Israel Channel 12 report alleged a confrontation between Netanyahu and Zamir over proposed military action against Iran that critics suggested aimed to postpone Tuesday's parliamentary vote for political gain.
Netanyahu rejected the claims as "nonsense" during a TV interview, while reports indicated Zamir had requested detailed discussions and signed legal authorization before executing any directive; Katz insisted there was "complete" coordination between political leadership and the IDF.
Former army chief Gadi Eisenkot warned Netanyahu not to place "political interests above the state's security," while Avigdor Liberman demanded the Attorney General open a criminal investigation for alleged treason.
Final surveys show neither Netanyahu's bloc nor his rivals are on track for a majority as voters head to polls tomorrow; President Donald Trump stated there would be no attack on Iran overnight, addressing regional tensions.
