Renton High assistant principal’s contract expires following investigation
The district said Powell violated policy after investigators found sexually explicit messages and photos sent to two mothers of students.
On August 12, Renton High School assistant principal Rashaad Powell was replaced following an investigation concluding he violated district policies by sending sexually explicit messages to mothers of two students.
Investigators concluded Powell used Snapchat to send sexually explicit messages, including propositions for sex; Powell claimed the communications were consensual, citing the mothers' continued contact.
Independent reporting from two mothers corroborated the harassment, undermining Powell's accounts; additionally, the district investigation accused Powell of misusing Booster Club funds.
Rebecca L'Amouras replaced Powell as assistant principal while Farley Haruo took over as the new boys basketball coach, as the district opted not to renew Powell's contracts.
Powell has stated he plans to appeal the decision not to renew his contract, while the district addresses procedural failures regarding Booster Club funds identified in the investigation.
