Renegade Is the 2-1 Favorite for the Belmont Stakes Rematch with Derby Winner Golden Tempo
Renegade opened at 2-1 after drawing post four, while Golden Tempo took the outside post in a $2 million Belmont Stakes field.
On Monday, Kentucky Derby runner-up Renegade opened as the 2-1 favorite for the 158th Belmont Stakes when post positions were drawn for Saturday's race at Saratoga Race Course.
Golden Tempo beat Renegade by a neck to win the 152nd Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs five weeks ago, setting up their rematch this Saturday in upstate New York.
Chief Wallabee, the 3-1 second choice, joins the nine-horse field alongside Golden Tempo, who drew the No. 9 post for the $2 million purse at Saratoga Race Course.
Trainer Bill Mott said Chief Wallabee shows "upward progression" since the Derby, while Trainer Cherie DeVaux expects Golden Tempo to "find his footing" behind the field early.
Saratoga Race Course hosts the 13th race on Saturday's card while Belmont Park undergoes reconstruction, ensuring there will be no Triple Crown winner for the eighth consecutive year.
