The Bayamese patriot was the main organizer of the beginning of the wars of independence in Cuba, in 1868. He is considered by his thought and actions as one of the most pre-clarified men in Latin America in that century.

On April 18, 1819, one of the most notable patriots in the country was born in Bayamo: Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and del Castillo. A man of integrity who has remained in history as the first to rise to claim Cuba’s right to be free. Due to his courage as a leader, fervent love and dedication to the cause of national independence, Cespedes is considered the Father of the Fatherland.

A floral offering in the name of the people of Cuba was deposited today before the funeral monument erected to Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, the Father of the Homeland, in the patrimonial fields Santa Ifigenia, of this city, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 206th anniversary of his birth.
