Missing toddler’s body found 11 years after disappearance, police believe
Victoria Police uncovered remains believed to be a toddler missing since 2014 buried just 50cm deep in a Melbourne backyard, with a relative tipping off authorities.
- On Wednesday, Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives uncovered human remains at a Brookfield, Melbourne's outer west, home believed to be those of the 18-month-old boy who vanished years ago.
- Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives began probing earlier this year after one relative reportedly broke a long-held silence, and the family later moved overseas.
- With VIFM and Major Crime Scene Unit support, crews spent about six hours digging before locating remains in a shallow grave reportedly 50 centimetres deep on Monday.
- Victoria Police said the Missing Persons Squad will now lead the ongoing investigation, the coroner has been notified, and the remains are yet to be formally identified.
- Current residents of the Brookfield property say they had no connection, and the home's current owner told The Herald Sun he was stunned as 7NEWS reported with video coverage.
