Welsh Rugby Star Louis Rees-Zammit Giving up Pro Football and Returning to the Pitch
DUVAL COUNTY, FLORIDA, AUG 1 – Louis Rees-Zammit left the NFL after limited playing opportunities and is set to rejoin rugby to prepare for the upcoming season, officials said.
Through an Instagram post Thursday night, Louis Rees-Zammit, the 24-year-old Welsh rugby international turned NFL player, revealed he is returning to rugby.
After 18 months attempting to break into the NFL, Rees-Zammit spent all last season on Jacksonville’s practice squad as an International Player Pathway member, making little progress and considered a long shot for 2025.
Despite preseason action, Rees-Zammit played in three games last year, carrying six times for 22 yards and catching one pass for three yards for the Chiefs.
In preparing for the rugby season, Thursday’s decision concluded his more than year-long NFL bid as he aims to get everything in place for next season.
Anticipation builds as Gloucester prepares for their September 25 Premiership season return, with Rees-Zammit expected to bolster Wales after scoring 14 tries in 32 Tests.
