Red Wings’ Postava Impresses in First NHL Start and 4-3 Win over Oilers
On Monday, October 26, 2026, rookie goaltender Michal Postava made his first NHL start memorable as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in a shootout at Rogers Place.
Detroit trailed three separate times during the contest, forcing overtime when Dylan Larkin scored with 1:17 remaining in regulation to tie the game 3-3.
Postava stopped 26 of 28 shots in regulation and overtime, then denied shootout attempts by Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to secure the victory.
The Oilers dropped their second straight game and lost forward Zach Hyman to an apparent concussion. "We responded appropriately all three times," Detroit head coach Todd McLellan said.
Detroit returns to Little Caesars Arena on Thursday for a two-game homestand against the Chicago Blackhawks while sitting with 12 points near the Eastern Conference cellar.
It was a great debut.
Against the best possible opposition.
Michal Postava got his chance between the posts for the first time in the Detroit Red Wings.
And how he took it.
With 25 saves, he led the team to a 4-3 victory away from home in Edmonton.
– I am so incredibly happy. Many friends back home in the Czech Republic messaged me before the game and wondered how I would cope against McDavid and Draisaitl.
