Red Sox Place Roman Anthony on the 10-Day IL with a Sprained Right Wrist
Mickey Gasper was recalled from Triple-A Worcester after Anthony hurt his wrist in Detroit and said he has not swung a bat since Monday.
The Boston Red Sox placed outfielder Roman Anthony on the 10-day injured list Thursday before their four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park due to a sprained right wrist.
Anthony hurt his wrist during his first at-bat Monday in Detroit and subsequently flew to Boston to consult with team hand specialist Dr. Matthew Leibman.
Signed to an eight-year, $130 million contract last year, Anthony is hitting.229 this season but remains optimistic, saying "The hand is tricky and I've never dealt with a hand issue before."
The Red Sox recalled catcher and first baseman Mickey Gasper from Triple-A Worcester to fill the roster spot while riding a three-game winning streak.
This marks Anthony's second injured list stint in as many seasons; last year he missed the wild-card playoff series against the New York Yankees due to an oblique strain.
