Freddy Peralta, Liam Hicks lift the Rays to a 3-1 win over the Guardians that evens the ALCS at 1-1
Freddy Peralta threw six scoreless innings and Liam Hicks drove in two runs after José Ramírez’s fielding error.
- On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays evened the American League Championship Series at one game apiece, defeating the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 after third baseman Jose Ramirez committed a costly fourth-inning error.
- Ramirez left third base uncovered on a Chandler Simpson chopper before misplaying a routine Ben Williamson grounder that glanced through his legs and allowed a runner to score.
- The defensive lapses provided three unearned runs, giving Rays starter Freddy Peralta all the support needed; Peralta earned the win after pitching six innings of four-hit baseball.
- Cleveland managed only a single run on a 7th-inning double by Chase DeLauter, while Ramirez faced intense social media criticism for the uncharacteristic defensive miscue.
- The best-of-seven series shifts to Cleveland for Games 3, 4, and 5 beginning Thursday at 6 p.m.; Cavs star Donovan Mitchell is scheduled to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
