Kawhi Leonard Signs Two-Year US$115-Million Contract Extension with Raptors
- On Tuesday, Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors agreed to a two-year, $115 million contract extension, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
- Following the conclusion of an NBA investigation into salary cap circumvention by the Los Angeles Clippers, the Raptors finalized the trade to reacquire Leonard earlier this month.
- Toronto sent forwards Brandon Ingram and Gradey Dick, plus multiple draft picks, to the Clippers to secure Leonard; he is now under contract for three seasons totaling $165 million after taking approximately $11 million less than his maximum extension.
- Coming off a career-best 27.9 points per game, the two-time Finals MVP is expected to finish his career in Toronto, having previously led the franchise to their 2019 NBA championship.
- The contract includes a player option for the 2028-29 season, providing flexibility as the Raptors manage rising salary books and solidifying the team's long-term commitment to the veteran star.
