Rangers sign G James Reimer to one-year contract
On Sunday, the New York Rangers released veteran goalie James Reimer from his professional tryout with the Hartford Wolf Pack before he appeared in an NHL game.
Igor Shesterkin's season-ending lower-body injury earlier this month prompted the Rangers to sign Reimer for additional roster depth during their goaltending crisis.
Posting a 35-save shutout on Friday in his only AHL appearance, Reimer drew on 16 years of NHL experience including stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported the Rangers 'could be' adding a goalie soon, naming Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen of the Buffalo Sabres and Karel Vejmelka of the Utah Mammoth as potential trade targets.
Ranked second in the Metropolitan Division at 7-5-1, New York faces the Los Angeles Kings on Monday night while continuing its goaltending search to avoid playoff disappointment.
