Rangers put goalie James Reimer on waivers after he made one start for them
The New York Rangers placed veteran goaltender James Reimer on waivers Thursday, with the 38-year-old potentially headed to the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack if unclaimed by other NHL clubs.
Signed last month, the veteran was meant to provide relief for Dylan Garand, who played nearly nonstop after franchise goaltender Igor Shesterkin suffered a season-ending knee injury.
In his only start on October 26, Reimer allowed three goals on eight shots in 20 minutes before being pulled during a home loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
Following a Wednesday minor league rehab start, backup Joonas Korpisalo nears a return, though Reimer will still serve as Dylan Garand's backup for Thursday's home game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
With 540 games of NHL experience, the veteran remains available to other teams, marking a swift conclusion to his tenure after the Rangers sought veteran depth to address their injury crisis.
