The Kitchener Rangers Are OHL Champions
Christian Humphreys and Sam O'Reilly scored in the third period as Kitchener completed a 4-0 series sweep and claimed its first OHL title since 2008.
On Tuesday, the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Barrie Colts 4-2 at Sadlon Arena to sweep the Ontario Hockey League championship series and capture the J. Ross Robertson Cup for the first time since 2008.
This playoff run saw the Rangers dominate with a 16-2 record, while the Colts struggled throughout the series to manage Kitchener's forechecking pressure and were forced to play from behind.
OHL Playoff MVP Sam O Reilly led all scorers with 17 goals, while goaltender Christian Kirsch made 18 saves and Christian Humphreys scored the game-winner with 9:48 remaining.
The Rangers will travel to British Columbia for the Memorial Cup, opening play against the host Kelowna Rockets on May 22 as part of the Canadian Hockey League tournament.
Captain Cameron Reid described the team as speechless after the victory, while Matthew Andonovski noted, "We are a true brotherhood in here," signaling unity heading into the Memorial Cup.
