Rahul Gandhi Accuses PM Modi, Shah of Treating Indian Businesses as 'Playthings' Amid Tata Sons Row
Gandhi said the dispute shows Indian business is being treated as a political plaything and urged major corporate leaders to speak out.
On Wednesday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led government of treating Indian business as a "plaything," alleging that Tata is being "criminally destroyed" and vowing to "ensure justice for these crimes."
These remarks follow a bitter leadership dispute at Tata Sons, where Tata Trusts Chairman Noel Tata challenged the reappointment of Executive Chairman Chandrasekaran, alleging procedural irregularities at the September 17 board meeting.
In an October 26 letter, Noel Tata contended the reappointment violated Articles 118 and 104B, claiming no selection committee was constituted and required affirmative votes were not obtained.
Noel Tata has demanded internal documents and meeting recordings within seven days to resolve the dispute; there has been no immediate reaction from the government or Tata Group regarding Gandhi's allegations.
Tata Trusts holds a 66% stake in Tata Sons, and the conflict has split trustees and reached the boardroom, highlighting governance challenges within the country's largest conglomerate.
