Quebec confirms strategic role for natural gas in long-term energy plan
Questerre said the plan leaves natural gas in Quebec’s energy mix and gives its Utica discovery a role in lower-emissions supply.
Natural gas will remain part of Quebec's energy mix and will be decarbonized gradually and orderly according to the PGIRE.
The PGIRE highlights the strategic role of natural gas due to existing distribution infrastructure that supports decarbonization over time.
Michael Binnion of Questerre said the government recognizes natural gas will be important in Quebec's energy system for decades, benefiting the Utica gas discovery.
Polls indicate Quebec residents prefer local natural gas over imports from the U.S., as local gas has a lower greenhouse gas emissions footprint.
