Qualcomm Unveils Comprehensive Data Center Roadmap for the Agentic AI Era with New Qualcomm Dragonfly Portfolio
The company said Microsoft and Meta will use new AI chips as it expands beyond smartphones into faster-growing markets.
On Wednesday, Qualcomm Incorporated unveiled a comprehensive data center strategy at its Investor Day, raising its fiscal 2029 non-handset revenue target to $40 billion and setting a data center revenue goal of more than $15 billion.
Facing mounting pressure in the saturated smartphone market, Qualcomm is diversifying into data centers, robotics, and automotive platforms to capture an approximately $1.7 trillion addressable market by 2030.
Data center chief Tony Pialis detailed the Dragonfly C1000 CPU and "High-Bandwidth Compute" technology, claiming they deliver superior performance per watt compared to competitors' processors.
Strategic partners Meta and Microsoft are already engaging with the new hardware; Meta will deploy Dragonfly C1000 CPUs for its next-generation server fleet, while Microsoft will use Qualcomm's AI accelerators.
Qualcomm acquired Modular to strengthen software capabilities for its data center efforts, with production of the new solutions expected to begin in the second half of 2028.
The US Group has been trying for a long time to enter the rapidly growing AI chip market in data centers. Now, two tech heavyweights are among the customers of the new chips.
