24 Charged in Alleged Cartel-Linked Drug-Trafficking Operation Across Middle Tennessee
Prosecutors say the group moved more than 500 kilograms of methamphetamine and laundered millions in drug proceeds.
- On Wednesday, federal prosecutors announced the indictment of 24 individuals in a Nashville-based drug trafficking operation tied to the Sinaloa Cartel, which allegedly distributed large quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine throughout Middle Tennessee.
- Two alleged leaders, Humberto Morales and Jose Martin Perez, controlled the organization from inside Tennessee Department of Correction facilities while serving sentences for unrelated convictions. Prosecutors say they coordinated trafficking activities from prison.
- Investigators seized 500 kilograms of methamphetamine, 20 kilograms of fentanyl, 60 kilograms of cocaine, and more than $375,000 in cash, alongside multiple firearms and five vehicles. The group moved shipments weekly from September 2025 to September 2026.
- The DOJ alleges the organization operated under the direction of individuals in Mexico known as "the Office," which coordinated trafficking on behalf of the Sinaloa Cartel. This structure enabled cartel control from across the border.
- Sixteen defendants are already in state custody on unrelated charges, while all 24 face federal drug conspiracy counts. United States Attorney Braden Boucek called the allegations "staggering," emphasizing the threat to community safety.
