Fever that causes sufferers to bleed from their eyes breaks out in Russian ranks
A rodent-borne illness causing bleeding from the eyes has affected the Chechen Akhmat Battalion, with three soldiers reported ill due to hantavirus disease.
The most severe form of hantavirus, haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, has a mortality rate of up to 38 percent, according to Airfinity.
Airfinity warns that poor living conditions and rodents may lead to further undetected cases in the Russian unit.
The hantavirus illness lacks a cure or specific treatment, with similar strains showing high mortality rates in other regions.
