Publix Expands Frozen Berry Recall over E. Coli Outbreak: See List of Products

Publix said the berries were removed from sale after traceback and epidemiological data linked them to E. coli O145, which can cause severe illness.

  • Publix is expanding its recall to all lots of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries and Whole Mixed Berries due to potential contamination with Escherichia coli O145.
  • The expanded recall follows a July 3 announcement of GreenWise Organic Whole Blueberries, Lot Code 60401, from supplier Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A. of San Carlos, Chile, with Publix acting "out of an abundance of caution."
  • Customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia should discard or return affected products to Publix for a full refund.
  • Escherichia coli O145 can cause severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting; vulnerable populations like children and older adults may develop hemolytic uremic syndrome.
  • The CDC is investigating the multistate outbreak, and customers with questions may contact Publix Customer Care between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday.
