Luis Lara Is Eager to Reward the Brewers' Faith After Signing a $31 Million, 7-Year Contract
The 21-year-old outfielder is guaranteed $31 million, and the deal includes club options through 2035.
The Milwaukee Brewers signed 21-year-old outfielder Luis Lara to a seven-year contract extension guaranteeing $31 million, with club options extending through 2035.
Standing 5-foot-7, Lara is hitting.338 with 19 steals for Triple-A Nashville this season after batting.257 last year with Double-A Biloxi, where he earned a Gold Glove.
Negotiations finalized roughly two weeks ago, securing base salaries starting at $2 million in 2026 and 2027, with options escalating to $12 million by 2035.
Despite the financial security, Lara said the contract is "basically not something that gives me a free pass," emphasizing his commitment to maintain his work ethic.
The Brewers aim to replicate the success of outfielder Jackson Chourio, who signed an eight-year, $82 million contract in December 2023 and recorded 20 homers and 20 steals in his first two seasons.
