Prosecutors expand Swiss ski bar fire probe to include mayor, document shows
Nine people, including the mayor and municipal officials, are investigated for involuntary manslaughter and negligence after 41 died in a fire at Crans-Montana’s Le Constellation bar.
- On March 9, Wallis canton public prosecutor's office widened the probe, placing five local officials under investigation over the Jan 1 Crans-Montana bar fire.
- Prosecutors say champagne bottles with sparklers raised too close to a basement ceiling ignited sound‑insulation foam, after the municipality revealed no safety check had been carried out since 2019.
- Victims and survivors include mostly teenagers, with 115 people injured and many still in hospital, while Jacques and Jessica Moretti, bar owners, face manslaughter and arson negligence charges.
- Between April 7 and 15, the public prosecutor's office will question implicated municipal officials and Mr Jacques Moretti, as nine people are now under criminal investigation.
- Mr Nicolas Feraud, mayor of Crans‑Montana, is among those under suspicion, along with a former municipal councillor in charge of security, a former fire safety officer and his deputy, and the current head of public safety.
