These New 22-Hour Flights Will Connect Australia to the World Like Never Before
Qantas says the route will cut up to four hours from current one-stop trips, with about 20% of flights using the polar path.

- Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson said the service saves customers up to four hours compared to existing options, allowing families to avoid waking children during stopovers in Asia or the Middle East.
- Developed with the University and Australian Centre for Field Robotics, the Constellation system optimizes fuel and flight time; chief technical pilot Alex Passerini described the resulting North Pole route as "very special."
- Each long-range flight requires four pilots and 14 cabin crew, with nine beds provided for staff rest; pilots receive a special type rating to fly both the A330 and A350.
- The trip between Sydney and London is expected to range between 18 and 20 hours, with Qantas utilizing the new north polar flight path for about 20 per cent of these flights during the northern winter.
